Update March 2020


Continuing from the Month of Feb, the Earthworks operations have progressed, with further material being placed to further construct the embankment of the new Spine Road to its eventual interconnection with Broadway.


The 1:1 reinforced slope has been constructed on the North Side of the spine road embankment.


Road construction on the last section of the Spine Road has progressed leading up to the intersection of Broadway with construction of the capping layer commencing, this will continue through April.


Traffic management in the form of cones, barriers, signage etc continue to cordon off Lane 1 Northbound of the Broadway A663 and will continuously be maintained 24 hours a day by the specialist site team.  This may however be Subject to Coronavirus Restrictions.


Broadway is temporarily restricted down to 3-lane running and only the East side footpath is open during this phase of works. Apologies for any unavoidable disruption caused.


The Traffic Management continues to be monitored by TfGM daily.


On the West Side of Crossley Bridge works have progressed with the service diversions along Broadway in line with the new proposed footpath / road layout. United Utilities and Electricity northwest have progressed with the necessary diversions and the new infrastructure installed is now live. The redundant existing service infrastructure will be removed in conjunction with the Bridge demolition works.  


Street lighting ducting and columns are being installed inline with the new Footpath arrangements.


BT Openreach and virgin media diversions are also well underway diverting their ducting, cables, and overheads lines.


Foxdenton Lane Junction alteration works have now commenced. Existing footpaths and hard standing surfaces have been removed and preparations have been made to install new kerbs, edgings and landscaped areas to the new design layout. Temporary Traffic Management is in place to allow safe working


Next Stage of the works April 2020


The following maybe subject to Coronavirus restrictions.


Earthworks operations will progress up to the level of the Spine Road finish road formation.  


Street lighting columns and ducting will progress on the west side of Broadway. Any redundant columns will be removed.  


Combined Permanent and temporary kerbing / edgings will be completed to form the new footpath and road layout along the last section of the spine road and Foxdenton Lane junction.


Surfacing of the new temporary western footpath will be progressed.

Diversion of an existing 375mm dia United Utilities sewer that conflicts with the new junction is to be progressed.


Further formation of the Spine road will progress next month continuing from the previous phases progressing with the SW drainage installation and road construction.
